Appraisals
WHAT IS AN APPRAISAL? An appraisal is an informed opinion as to the description, quality, condition, and value of an item. Appraisals document exact information about a piece of jewelry. In the event of a loss, an insurance company will use the appraisal to replace the item as specifically as possible. We have been engaged in the jewelry business for over 28 years, appraising diamonds, fine jewelry, watches and precious stones of all descriptions. We provide certified appraisals for fine jewelry, estate evaluations, and insurance replacement. We have had customers ship items of jewelry to us for evaluation prior to purchasing, and based their decision to buy the item on our appraisal. While this may seem excessive to some, an appraisal can provide you with the peace of mind to purchase a valuable item from an auction or individual. WHY SHOULD I GET MY JEWELRY APPRAISED? Most people require an appraisal for insurance purposes. An appraisal may also be needed in the settlement of estate matters, or for evaluation prior to the sale of a piece of jewelry. We will be happy to visit with you to evaluate your appraisal needs. APPRAISAL UPDATES Recent increases in gold, platinum and silver prices mean you should review your appraisals for your fine jewelry. The price of gold has risen over 30% in the last year, and over 300% in the past three years. Given these recent dramatic market changes, your coverage may not be sufficient to cover the complete replacement cost in the event of a loss. Consult your insurance agent for specific information on your policy and coverages. Generally, appraisals should be updated every 5 years.
